This is one of the various scholarship programs offered by DAAD, specifically for candidates from developing and newly industrialized nations, to study or carry out research in Germany. It is targeted at:

Preparatory Language Course: DAAD sponsors a compulsory preparatory German language course of 2 to 6 months before the start of your study in Germany.

Requirements and Prerequisites
The typical applicant for this scholarship should:
- Be currently working or has worked either in the public sector or a state or private company in a developing country
- Holds an undergraduate (Bachelors) degree in a related subject
- Has completed an academic degree with far above average results and has a minimum of two years of related work experience after the first (bachelor’s) degree
- His/her Academic degrees should normally not be more than 6 years old
- Language requirements
- For German taught Course: DAAD provides a 6-months intensive German language course in Germany for all scholarship winners. However, candidates must provide proof of at least B1 in German language (at the time of application)
- For English taught Course: IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum score of 550 for paper-based, 213 for computer-based, 80 for internet-based) test.
- Proof of current and past work situation: All applicants are required to provide proof of professional work experience (min. 2 years) and specify their current work status at the time of application. Thus they must submit:
- Employment certificate(s) which should state the exact position and period of employment
- Reference letter from employer(s), normally, it should include a guarantee of re-employment after completion of study in Germany
- Motivation Letter: All candidates must submit a motivation letter/statement explaining their reasons for applying for a particular postgraduate course(s) with reference to their present employment. They should also showcase their development-related motivation and explain how winning the scholarship will assist them to take on social responsibility(ies) later in their career and for their home country, after completion of studies.

Documents needed for DAAD scholarship application (in the following order):
- A filled and personally signed DAAD application form with current date
- A personally signed CV. Only euro pass format at (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/) is accepted and must be of current date.
- Motivation Letter (make reference to your current occupation and choice of postgraduate program(s), Max. 2 pages), personally signed and with current date.
- Important: When applying for more than one postgraduate course (max. 3 courses), you need to submit only one motivation letter and you must explain why you are applying for the specific courses and why you chose them in the given priority.
- Recommendation Letter from your current employer; the letter must have letterhead, signature, an official stamp and must be of current date (not in a sealed envelope)
- Employment Certificate(s) from your employer(s) that shows at least two years of relevant working experience (after your bachelor degree) at the time of application (must have letterhead, signature & stamp) and if possible, a guarantee of re-employment from your current employer upon returning home at the end of the scholarships
- Proof of Language Skills:
- – English – IELTS or TOEFL (Note: The institutional TOEFL is not accepted)
- – German – Required for courses taught in German
- Copies of Academic Degrees (certified translation if documents are not in English or German)
- Copies of Academic Transcripts, incl. grading-scale (certified translation if necessary)
- Applicants from the People’s Republic of China need to submit an APS Certificate in addition to their application documents.
- Note: Some of the courses may require additional documents. For more information, please check the course descriptions for the various courses/universities and also their respective websites.
- Note: If due to Corona you are unable to provide a language certificate, there is an exemption. Check here under “Current note”
How to Apply and Selection Procedure
- Step 1: Select suitable course(s) from the list of courses: full list of eligible courses and universities (you can apply for a maximum of three courses)
- Step 2 Apply and send complete application(s) directly to the university(ies) offering the postgraduate course(s) (together with your application documents).
- Step 3: An independent selection committee will then suggests potential candidates for a DAAD scholarship.
- Step 4: The suggested candidates will be contacted by DAAD to upload their complete application to the DAAD Portal. (A link will be sent by DAAD via email)
- Step 5: The selection process will be finalized, and the suggested candidates will be informed accordingly.
- IMPORTANT: Ensure you have a copy of all your application documents ready (as PDF files) because they have to be uploaded to the DAAD Portal if you are suggested for the DAAD scholarship!
