RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP 2021 for Master and PhD programmes For students whose citizenship is in sub-Sahara Africa, the Development Research Division (DRD) of South African- German Centre for Development Research in the University of Western Cape (UWC) offers a number of DAAD scholarships for Master programme in:

  • Public Administration

 

Candidates are required to have academic background in political science, social science, law, economics, geography, or such related field. PROS AND CONS OF STUDYING OVERSEAS

Note that for PhD programmes, preference will be given to research proposals on:

 

  • Poverty and inequality
  • Different social policy applications
  • Rural and urban livelihood
  • Citizenship and democracy
  • Governance at different levels in Africa
  • Capabilities and human development
  • Social movements
  • Food security

 

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION

Eligibility

  1. You must be a citizen of sub-Sahara African country
  2. Your previous study must be in a field related to Development Studies or Public Administration in an internationally recognised university
  3. You must possess excellent academic records
  4. You must consent to studying full-time in UWC
  5. Your last university degree must not be older than 6 years
  6. You must have a four-year undergraduate degree or its equivalent

Required Document

  1. Letter of motivation
  2. Curriculum vitae. Please use this format
  3. School leaving certificate
  4. University certificate
  5. Transcripts of all your results, showing the subjects of their respective grades in English. (For transcripts that are in language other than English or Afrikaans, you must submit them with their respective English translation, bearing the signatory of the Public Notary.)
  6. University matriculation certificate
  7. Certificate of proficiency in English language (either TOEFL or IETLS) or any such official attestation
  8. Evidence of current or previous employment or volunteering in your field
  9. Passport style photograph
  10. National ID card or passport
  11. Two recommendation letters: one academic and the other professional. (Should your referee prefer, they can send the recommendation letters to uwc@cdr-sa.org.)
  1. Essay on any of the following:

 

  1. Write critical note son how in equality can be measured. What do you regard ast he causes of inequality in your country?

 

  1. What are the prospects for a successful Developmental State model in any African country of your choice?

 

  • What do you see as the root causes of migration? How can these be addressed?

 

For greater credibility, you should have your documents authenticated by the Commissioner of Oaths.

Ensure your documents are in their required formats as stated in the form.

 

Submission must be made once. Forms not completely filled or with mistakes cannot be corrected and hence disqualify you.

 

The form cannot be saved to be resumed later. You must fill and submit it at one sitting.
